When it comes to your Business are you predictable?
The commercial above is one of the Geico commercials that really makes me laugh every time I see it. I know my mother is going to be upset when she reads this … well maybe not because I am sure when she watches that video she is going to be thinking about her own mother, my Nana.
I remember the old comedian line talking about parents, where the father tells his kids about his mother: “This is not the same woman who raised me; she is old and trying to get into heaven now.” I think of my mom; then I think of my Nana and how I could not see her the same way that my mom viewed her.
These commercials from Geico are great marketing and I want to talk about this one not because it so reminds me of my mother, but because it reminds me of how some of the successful businesses are predictable. You know you can count on them. Let’s take that thought and apply it to us. Are you someone that others can count on? Are you someone that YOU can count on?
Let me give you some great tips for using your past to help create your future success.
- Know your weaknesses and plan how you will overcome them. It’s a fact that over the past few years I have become lazy in some areas. I also know that I have a bad habit of getting caught up in the details. This is the biggest fight I have with myself – getting the work done I need to do to get the results I want.
People don’t think of me as being lazy because once I identified that weakness, I found the strength that I needed to push me to become successful. That is one of the reasons I use my “Take Action Now” sheets with people who attend my events.
- Take a look at your future and decide what you want to be known for. This is the reason behind the creation of so many of my programs and program parts. I learned to look objectively at where I was and work towards my goals. I use that as the driving part for my success and each day I work to move through whatever struggle I may be in.
- Share your journey. I believe it’s important to share the struggles, the truth, the actual story of what you are going through. We’ve often heard that it takes 10,000 hours of work to become an expert in something; but many of us don’t have time to wait those 10,000 hours to start making a living doing what we do.
When you share your story as a coach or a business leader you will find there are many people who are also struggling with what you’ve been through in your most recent history. Share your journey, share your progress, talk about your failures, how you built to success and watch how many people will come to you for direction because they will realize those experiences have made you an expert.
Take these small steps; learn from your mistakes; learn from your weaknesses. Create your future by keeping your eyes on where you want to go. Do this and become predictable, become known as someone who gets results, then watch those people who come to you as a leader in getting results.
