With the week coming to an end, I wanted to include one of my mentor’s stories in life. When it comes to people we need to look up to, this man is by far a better one than I am.
Most people know him as just an actor but over the past year I have gotten to know Glenn Morshower as more than that and each time I see him, I must say the man has a way of making me get to a mirror and take a look. Glenn is a wonderful actor with many roles under his belt. Hearing him speak five times in the past 12 months has been inspiring.
But the thing that I need to have in common with Glenn is the way he treats everyone he comes in contact with. Glenn treated my wife and my father-in-law like they were the celebrities when he met them. Both Glenn and his wife stood to greet them during a meal like it was an honor to meet them.
Glenn will remember most people’s first names after he meets them and calls them by name when seeing them again. He tells stories of how we need to treat every living thing on this planet with respect.
It is no secret in my house that I am not a pet lover, but after meeting Glenn I came to realize that those pets have feelings also. While I am still not a pet lover, I will not harm an animal; it’s just not right. And that goes ten times for my fellow mankind.
When it comes to the way I have treated some people who I thought did not deserve my respect, I found I need to learn to respect all human life. That is something that Glenn has taught me. I love to hear him speak, not because he was in the movies, not because he is a star or celebrity, but because when I get done with a day with Glenn, I have to do a self-check to learn to treat my fellow man better. I have to learn to treat my wife better, my children better, my brothers, and all those related to me – even those who have harmed me over the years.
So I want to close this week out with a challenge for you: it’s time to take action to make this world a better place. We do that by going the extra mile in treating those we love and those we really don’t love with respect, even when we do not agree with them. Are you willing to step up your game?
