One of those movies that I watched many years ago, in my “midnight-can’t-sleep” mode, was the 1996 movie, The Associate. It’s a Whoopi Goldberg movie about an African-American woman who cannot get ahead in a white-male-dominated Wall Street world.
One of the things that reminded me of the movie was the line where Eli Wallach plays the billionaire Wall Street investor. He has an assistant we only know as “Bissell.” Many times in the movie he spits out the line to get his assistant moving: “Move your ass, Bissell.”
I was thinking of that movie when I was preparing this week’s idea that we need to get off the fence and take action to move into an entrepreneur model, stopping our “wantrepreneur” lives. The idea of the movie was that a woman could not make it in a man’s world, or that people could only make it if they were the right color, sex, or any other guideline set by “the establishment.”
In the movie, she used their system to build her business. She found a way to take action. She leveraged an apartment building to get the money to get started. Her ideas were strong and eventually she was able to become a very successful firm owner.
While we cannot tell you in a short blog that all your problems have been solved or that with a small amount of action you will be successful in less than two hours like the movie shows, I can tell you that so many people have ideas inside of them and are letting something keep them from taking action.
Our world has changed a lot from when that movie was made, close to 20 years ago. The idea of a woman running a large fortune 500 company and doing things with it that many men could not, is no longer a surprise. The fact that we now have a two-term African-American President, shows our world has changed.
If you are still sitting at home waiting for the right doors to open, if you are still reading posts, and not taking any action to build a better world. Well it’s time to give you a shot in the butt and say “Move Your Ass.” What are you waiting for?
In the past 12 months since I started this Rock’n’Roll Keys to Business Success, I have seen and met people in 30 different multi-level marketing companies. I never heard of any of them before last year. I see so many new ideas people have created to solve problems in the lives of business owners and people in general. The world is full of opportunities and it does not care what you look like, where you came from, or how much education you have.
So it’s time to put down your excuses and get up and get started. It’s time to take action. It sure isn’t fun to have someone present idea to you that you came up with 10 years ago and never acted on because you thought you didn’t have enough money, or no one would take that idea seriously – because you didn’t get off your butt and take action.
Are you ready to lay down your excuses and take action? Let’s go! Move your butt and let’s get started!
I’m Tim Gillette, creator of the Rock ’n’ Roll Keys to Business Success. It’s time to take action and start living your dream. Are you ready to change and make 2013 rock?
