I sat watching the short clip from the movie, This is Spinal Tap , today. You know the scene where he shows all the numbers and dials on the amp, and each one has 11 as the highest number. I love the movie, especially this part where he just straight-faced tells us, “But these go up to 11. That’s one louder.”
A part of everyone watching it laughs. It’s funny to think that just making the top number one higher could make it louder. I have thought and thought about that scene for a chance to someday use it for a blog post. Well, today is that day.
More and more people remember that one scene, I know. When thinking of that movie, there are many things that bring laughs. That one scene is my most memorable of the movie. In many movies we often seem to remember the joke lines like that.
In this week of posts, I have featured the theme about making changes and making history. This short part of this movie is a great thing to use for making history as well as talking about changes.
Sometimes if you want to make something memorable, you just make it so funny that it sticks in the minds of people. I recall one of the many times I watched Zig Ziglar speaking. Zig was always telling jokes, always giving you something to laugh about so you could enjoy the lesson. If you have ever heard Zig, I’m sure you’ve heard some of them.
One time at a business network luncheon where Zig was speaking, it was 45 minutes of Zig telling jokes, by far the most memorable speech I ever heard Zig make. I can’t remember all the jokes, but I walked away remembering to laugh.
Another thing about this part of the movie is if you want to make history, sometimes you need to turn up the volume a little more than anyone else in your field.
At my Success Summit we talk about the ways to make entrepreneurs stand out. To be the RockStar in your niche you have to stand out from the crowd; maybe you need to be just a little louder.
When it comes to your business, think of these things to make you stand out like a RockStar; something my coach taught me to stand out in my industry. If you want to make history, you must find a way to stand out. If you are not standing out now it’s time to make changes, so you do stand out. What changes will you make to stand out? How will you turn up the volume in your business? Will you make yourself memorable?
