Over the past few years I have built a great brand. It’s a good idea to have a brand to market yourself; so many gurus are talking about your brand. But how do you plan on making that brand work? Have you defined the process to get there?
Often when I speak to a group or one-on-one, people ask me how I got my brand to the place it is. They want me to tell them about my brand process. Then they follow that with the statement, “I really need to get my brand!”
Over the past year I have stopped focusing so intently on what my brand tells; I’ve left the idea of just marketing the brand or name and started to find a solution in the marketplace and focus on fixing that solution.
The process is still being worked on; the climb to get where I want to go is still in the works. That is hard for so many to grasp. They think they need the brand; they think they must get to a certain point before they can release what they are doing to the world.
I’m here today to tell you that you must get the process started. You do not need to wait till the brand is locked in before you can market. The brand itself will not sell anything for you. Many point to the brands like Nike and Starbucks. Both of those companies started with a logo, but the product sales and where they are today is not even close to where those companies started.
I cannot tell you how many times I have recreated my logo, and still it’s in process of being done again. Like I said above, I moved in the past year to talking about a solution; or as my mentors have stated to me, a unique sales position. You see, I place my products in a place where people come by to see them. That position is a place that so many new entrepreneurs see and say, “That is what I need.”
So how do you get there? Well, it’s time to start the process. You may not have the minor details planned, but it’s time to make a basic outline of the direction you are going. Then you fill in those spots in between as you start moving forward. Building the flexibility in your planning is what my mentor calls “Brand on the run” or being willing to reinvent yourself.
