Over the past few weeks I have been traveling quite a bit. I did several thousand miles on the motorcycle in August and a few flights in September with more of both coming up in October and November.
When traveling, do you ever get behind that person at the counter who has nine bags to check in? They have at least one child and everywhere you head that morning they are in line just in front of you?
No, this didn’t happen to me on this trip, but I thought about this when I was watching a family who pulled up at the airport with lots of bags. It probably took the cab driver longer to unload the bags from his car than the trip took to get there.
One thing that I help more and more clients with is unpacking the clutter in their lives. You see, moving forward is very hard when you carry all those bags around. I used to do an exercise when I spoke. I started by asking people to stand up and turn their heads around, looking behind them; then I would ask them to try to reach their arms out forward while turning their heads around.
I know everyone just stood up from reading this and did this exercise right? How hard is it to be looking at the past and reach forward in your life? Yes, if you have not figured it out yet, the idea of carrying the bags of the past is what I want you to focus on today.
It’s time to say “yes” to less in your life; remove those things that keep you from moving forward in a timely manner to reach your goals in life and business. I am always working to remove those bags I have from the past. Some of them are like 8-track tapes that play on a revolving circle in life telling me I’m just not good because I did that.
What are the bags that you have packed? What is grabbing you from your past that keeps you from moving forward to reach your goals in a timely manner? It’s time to build into your life and business and just say “yes” to taking out the bags that are not needed.
The neat thing about my life and travel by motorcycle is I do not have the space to carry things that I do not need. I must pack light and if something is going to weigh down my travel I must leave it at home. I still look every time for ways to pack less and say “yes” to having the space for a wide open future. What about you?
