Daylight Savings

Tonight is the night we turn our clocks forward one hour. It means a short night if you have to get up early. But what does it really mean to you? Do you really save daylight?

I have noticed the ads over the last few years to change your clocks, change the batteries in your smoke detector. So you also use this as a reminder to do something else.

In my life, I use this time of year to start planning my summer bike riding, to remind myself it’s spring, time to use the extended hours to catch up on the yard work, maybe get the trees trimmed. At my house I have a lot to do. But I want to use this short weekend post to give you another thought. Why not use this time each spring to think of how to get yourself into better health?

In the spring of 1992 I found out I have epilepsy. But it was not until 2001 that I realized I would benefit from getting myself into a routine that would keep my body in good health. This fall, I will turn 45 and I’ve started to ask myself each year if there are things in my life I could change to take better care of myself.

So I challenge you, as you change your clock, to reflect on things in your life that might need to change to help you get to optimal health. Is it time to change the things you eat? Is it time to exercise more? Bottom line, it’s a good time each year to think about how to set yourself on a path to a healthier you.
