Well, it’s Thursday morning. Today, while you are reading this, I’m headed to downtown Dallas to watch as our home town NBA team will be in a parade in honor of their first championship win. It’s a great day to celebrate a great win. This is something I’ve observed about great entrepreneurs: they learn how to make the magic happen.
When most people come up against a wall, a trouble spot that basically makes them freeze in their tracks, they look for help. When an entrepreneur comes up against that wall in the business they have or the issues they have, you see an inventor, a mind that brings solution after solution to the problem. They become like the magician at a talent show, pulling idea after idea out of a hat until something works.
In life we all want to be that person who can just pull the ideas out of our hats. That is what helps people become better, they start like they are in the talent show, trying to master the trick that makes the show work. Once they have mastered the trick they can take it to the world. Think about the magic shows you have seen in your days. Think of those things that, as a child, were a mystery to you. You want to figure out what makes that magic happen. You want to be the person who looks behind the curtain.
So what does it take to make the magic happen? When those with the entrepreneur’s mind want to make the magic happen in life, family, or their business, they know what several things must be done to find that magic, to find what is needed to get their own show to look spectacular.
If you want to create a show that becomes spectacular and creates the magic, you must have three key things that make them work.
1. Your own secret sauce. I love hamburger joints, love to go into these places all over the country and see different burgers that are created in the kitchen. The thing that I remember most hearing when I was young was the secret sauce that makes one taste different from the other. Well you have to create a secret for your niche, market, or your industry that is you. You can copy a lot of things, but you will have to make it your own in one way or another.
2. Research and development. In every industry, those who become leaders are the ones who are always working and developing new ways of getting things done. When the magician comes to town with his show if he just kept doing the same tricks year after year it would no longer be exciting to go see them. Or in Rock ‘n Roll if the same tour comes to town year after year you will soon be going to see another band. Always be creating something new.
3. Teamwork. A true entrepreneur always knows there are limits. To make any venture small or large you will need a team to build it. The Mavs won this year because they played as a team, until the clock counted to zero and they were the last team standing. Some people in life will try to do it themselves, become the super hero and not let someone else do any of the work. They just want all the credit. We will get more into being a team in tomorrow’s post.
We all want to find the solution to our lives. I’ve said before too many people will ask others to solve the problems of their lives. An entrepreneur gets fascinated with what happens behind the curtain. They take that to their own life and usually find themselves making magic happen.
So take control of your life, learn from what was going on behind a curtain. Take that curious part of your life and create a new show of your own. My first business was car washing, I wanted to see a town where all the cars were clean. I watched so many movies where the scenes were of a small town and all the cars were clean. I found the way to make the magic happen and turned it into a business. What will you do to create magic?
